Åbo Akademi University is responsible for all Swedish-language teacher education in Finland. In Finland, all teacher education is connected to a university which means that a teacher has to have a Master’s degree in order to be certificated. Pre-school teachers are certificated after having completed a Bachelor of Education.
We offer several teacher education programmes (master): class teacher, special education teacher, subject teacher and early childhood teacher (bachelor). We also arrange studies in education for subject teachers and vocational teachers. The interaction between theory and practice in teacher education connects the teachers work to a theory-based understanding of the situations, which are brought to the fore through practical actions. We also offer education programmes in General Education and Adult Education with focus on leadership, administration, management and adult learning.
The programmes and studies in education are given in Swedish language.
