Vaasan Marssi unites walkers from around the world

Nos iuangat ambulare – may walking us unite!

The 3-day walking event Vaasan Marssi fills the roads and streets in the Vaasa area in August every year. The event organized by Vaasan Kävelyklubi is the Finnish representative in the international IML-string of walking events. The aim of the international IML-walking events is to promote walking as a way of promoting health. Walkers are encouraged to take part in the events in other countries and in this way to increase understanding and friendship between people.

The event is no competition, but a way for the individual to challenge himself by increasing the length of the walk and the number of days. On Friday we leave for a 10 or 20 km stretch at noon from Market Place. You may also choose an archipelago trip to the world nature heritage area. This trip leaves in the morning outside the town hall. Its length is between 15 to 20 km and goes in a fairly demanding terrain. During the weekend you can choose stretches between 10 to 42 km. The marathon walk starts early in the morning, the other distances somewhat later up to 10 am. There are service points at about 5 km intervals, so no heavy backpack is needed.

During Vaasan Marssi you see magtnificient views and meet old and new acquaintances. In the recent years the event has attracted some 400 to 600 participants from round 20 countries. It is easy to take part: you only need to fill in the entry-form and press ”send”.
